What is a pre-sentence investigation report and what is it used for in Florida?

A pre-sentence investigation report, also known as a PSI, is a report that’s generated by the Department of Corrections to assist in sentencing someone who’s been convicted of a felony. It’s designed to look into the background of the defendant. It’s designed to give the judge a sentencing recommendation by the Department of Corrections and it’s something that the judge will consider at time of sentencing, but it’s still up to the judge ultimately what the sentence would be.
