What is discovery?

Discovery is a very important part of every criminal case. The purpose of discovery is for the lawyers for the respective parties to discover the information, the evidence, that the opposing party has.

In a criminal case, discovery is a powerful tool for the accused. Florida has broad discovery rules where the prosecution is required to disclose all the evidence that it has against the accused so that the defendant can fully evaluate the case against him or her and the discovery process itself can be drawn out for many months depending on the severity of the case.
