What is “Stand Your Ground” law in Florida?

The “Stand Your Ground” law, which went into effect in 2005, added a new layer to the self-defense law in Florida. A person has always had the right to defend themselves with either deadly or non-deadly force, depending on the situation, but the “Stand Your Ground” law says that if you’re in a place that you have a right to be and you’re not otherwise engaged in criminal activity, that you no longer have a duty to retreat before you use self-defense.
