What symptoms and behavior is the officer looking for during the initial detention at the scene of a DUI?

When a police officer encounters a driver that they think may be driving under the influence, they’re going to look for things regarding their personal appearance, their dexterity, such things as their eyes, their speech, whether there’s an odor of alcohol, their ability to retrieve documents from within the car, their ability to step out of the car without showing signs of impairment. Those are the initial things that they’re going to look for before beginning their DUI investigation.
